The draft law on the protection of spatial data submitted to the State Duma
On November 17, 2021, a government bill "On Amendments to the Federal Law" On Geodesy, Cartography and Spatial Data and on Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation "and the Land Code of the Russian Federation was submitted to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
Amendments to the legislation clarify the conceptual apparatus in the field of geodesy and cartography and introduce a ban on the use of foreign software for storing and processing spatial data by public authorities, local governments and their subordinate organizations.
The same bill provides for the introduction of an obligation for enterprises organizing geodetic and cartographic works to send the information obtained as a result of these works to the federal spatial data fund.
It is planned that the requirements of the bill will enter into force on March 1, 2023.
