The Fund is working on creating a catalog of names of geographical objects of the republic in the Tatar
One of the activities of the State Budgetary Institution Spatial Data Fund of the Republic of Tatarstan is the creation and maintenance of a catalog of names of geographical objects of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Tatar. The catalog should become a single, reliable, relevant, accessible source of information about geographical objects in the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan in Russian and Tatar languages. This work is carried out in accordance with the Federal Law of December 18, 1997 No. 152-ФЗ On the names of geographical objects.
In the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, there is still no experience in creating catalogs in national languages that could be used. And also, a significant number of discrepancies and discrepancies in the names of geographical objects in the Republic of Tatarstan have accumulated, and the creation of a catalog of geographical names has become a necessity.
The first stage of creating a catalog was completed in early 2020. Collected, systematized and structured information about geographic objects from all possible sources, including in the Tatar language, developed a working procedure. An electronic catalog of settlements of the Republic of Tatarstan has been created, which today is working in test mode with the ability to filter data by types of settlements, by municipal districts, by information sources.
The second stage in the creation of the catalog will be the identification of settlements in which representatives of other peoples have historically compactly lived. It is planned to include the names of these settlements in the national languages of their inhabitants into the catalog. To date, the Spatial Data Foundation of the Republic of Tatarstan has prepared preliminary lists of such settlements in 14 districts of the Republic of Tatarstan.
