9 December 2020, Wednesday

A republican youth anti-corruption forum dedicated to the International Anti-Corruption Day was held today in the Kazan IT-park. The event was held in a discussion format. The Chairman of the State Council Farid Mukhametshin took part in the forum.

Having greeted the guests on behalf of the republic's leadership, the head of the parliament noted that serious attention is paid to the fight against corruption in Tatarstan. A whole range of measures has been developed at the federal and regional levels: a reliable legislative and regulatory framework has been created, organizational decisions have been made to prevent and minimize corruption, and the activities of law enforcement and supervisory bodies have been stepped up.

Tatarstan is implementing an anti-corruption policy program for 2015-2023, as well as departmental and municipal programs. In them, the main emphasis is on enhancing the transparency of the work of the authorities and the broad involvement of residents in these processes.

Farid Mukhametshin expressed gratitude to the organizers of the forum for their active anti-corruption work among the youth. This is yielding positive results, he stressed.

“We would like to hear from you new proposals that municipal and state authorities would actively use in their work,” he said.

The Chairman of the State Council drew attention to the fact that over the past 5 years, the number of Tatarstan citizens who have fallen into a corruption situation is decreasing - from 10.5 to 8.5 percent.

“Corruption, like rust, eats away not only the economy of the republic, but also the credibility of the authorities and the laws in force. It corrupts our youth, who mistakenly think that issues can be solved in such illegal ways” he said.

Farid Mukhametshin noted the contribution of the State Council of Tatarstan to the large-scale work to combat corruption. According to him, each draft law submitted to the republican parliament undergoes an anti-corruption examination, and the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Tatarstan also submits its opinion. The head of the parliament highly appreciated the work of the Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan on anti-corruption policy.

“Many consider it a punitive body. And I consider it to be a body that protects human interests, - he stressed. - The department is engaged in preventive work. I think that youth organizations should cooperate more actively with this department ”.

During the discussion, leaders and representatives of youth organizations identified areas in which corruption is most often manifested. The youth asked to establish a clear and transparent mechanism for the allocation of target places in universities, the allocation of places in dormitories, the enrollment of children in grades 1 and 10, the use of grant funds, etc.

The proposals voiced at the forum will be carefully studied by the authorities and accepted into work.
